Tecno Spark Go 1 With 5,000mAh Battery, IP54 Rating Unveiled: Specifications

Tecno Spark Go 1 was launched as the latest entrant in the company's Spark series. The new smartphone by the Transsion Holdings-owned company comes in two colourways and four RAM and storage options. It runs on the Unisoc T615 SoC along with up to 8GB of RAM. The Tecno Spark Go 1 boasts a 6.67-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate. It has an IP54-rated build and packs a 5,000mAh battery, which supports 15W charging.

Price and availability details of Tecno Spark Go 1 are yet to be announced. It is currently listed on Tecno's official website in Glittery White and Startrail Black colourways and four RAM and storage configurations — 6GB + 64GB, 8GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 128GB.

Tecno Spark Go 1 runs on Android 14 Go Edition and features a 6.67-inch HD+ (720x1,600 pixels) 120Hz refresh rate. The display has a hole punch cutout for the selfie shooter. The phone also gets a Dynamic Port feature that displays notifications around the front camera cutout. It runs on Unisoc T615 chipset coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. Through the memory fusion technology, the 8GB onboard memory can be expanded up to 16GB by adding additional unused storage.

Regarding optics, the Tecno Spark Go 1 has a dual rear camera setup comprising a 13-megapixel primary sensor with dual flash. For selfies and video chat, there is an 8-megapixel camera at the front with dual flash.

The Tecno Spark Go 1 features dual speakers with DTS sound. It has an IP54-rated build and features an IR control. The handset includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for authentication. It houses a 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging support. The battery unit is said to deliver up to 60 days of standby time and up to 31 hours of calling time on a single charge. Further, the 4G phone is claimed to provide seamless performance without any lag for four years.

Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 With On-Device Generative AI, 20 Percent Improved CPU Performance Launched

Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 was unveiled on Tuesday as Qualcomm's latest midrange smartphone processor. The new chipset is the most affordable model in the lineup that also includes the more powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. The chipmaker says that its newest processor will enable the use of generative AI features on more mid-tier smartphones. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is also claimed to offer up to 20 percent and 40 percent improved CPU and GPU performance, respectively.

Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 Availability Timeline

Xiaomi will launch the first smartphone with the newly announced Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 (SM7635) in September, according to Qualcomm. Other device makers — including Realme, Samsung, and Sharp — will also introduce handsets equipped with the chipset in the coming months.

Smartphones that run on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 are likely to arrive at a lower price than those powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 — these chipsets were unveiled by Qualcomm in November 2023 and March, respectively.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is a 4nm octa-core chipset that comprises a Prime core clocked at 2.5GHz, along with three performance cores (2.4GHz) and four efficiency cores (1.8GHz). It supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and an unspecified amount of UFS 3.1 storage, along with USB 3.1 Type-C connectivity.

Qualcomm is touting the on-device Generative AI capabilities of the new Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, which offers support for large language models (LLMs) such as Baichuan-7B and Llama 2 at 1B parameters. It also supports translation and transcription features in multiple languages, according to the chipmaker.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 supports smartphone displays at Full-HD+ resolution, with up to 144Hz refresh rate. It also supports external displays at up to 4K resolution, with a 60Hz refresh rate.

Handsets powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 can be equipped with a 200-megapixel camera, or up to three 21-megapixel cameras. It has three 12-bit image signal processors (ISPs) and supports video recording at up to 4K/ 30fps and slow-motion video recording at 1080p/ 120fps. 

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 supports for 5G connectivity via the chipmaker's 5G Modem-RF system. Qualcomm says download speeds can reach as high as 2.9Gbps, and both mmWave and Sub-6 5G networks are supported. Meanwhile, the Qualcomm FastConnect mobile connectivity system enables support for Wi-Fi 6E networks and Blueooth 5.4 connectivity. The chipset also supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4+ technology, which means smartphones should be able to support charging at up to 100W.

Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G and Redmi Pad SE 8.7 were launched in select global markets as the latest tablet from the Chinese brand. Both new models are equipped with MediaTek Helio G85 SoC and have up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage. They feature an 8.7-inch LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. The tablets pack a 6,650mAh battery with support for 18W charging over a USB Type-C port. Both Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G and Redmi Pad SE 8.7 feature dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

Price of Redmi Pad SE 8.7 starts at GBP 119 (roughly Rs. 13,000) while the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G is priced at GBP 149 (roughly Rs. 16,000). They are available in Aurora Green, Graphite Grey, and Sky Blue colourways. The tablets are currently up for pre-order in the UK with the sales scheduled to begin on August 21.

The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 and its 4G variant run on HyperOS and feature an 8.7-inch HD+ (800x1,340 pixels) LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 600nits. The display has TUV Rheinland certification for low blue light and flicker-free performance. The tablets run on MediaTek Helio G85 processor with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

On the back, the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G and Redmi Pad SE 8.7 feature an 8-megapixel camera. They pack a 5-megapixel selfie camera as well. The tablets offer dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos certification. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, FM radio, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port. The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G supports 4G networks and has dual SIM support.

Both Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G and Redmi Pad SE 8.7 pack a 6,650mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. They measure 211.58x125.48x8.8mm. The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 weighs 373 grams while the 4G variant weighs 375 grams.

OnePlus 13 Launch Timeline, Design Leaked; Price Range Tipped to Be Similar to That of OnePlus 12

OnePlus 13 is said to be in the works as a successor to the OnePlus 12. The Chinese tech brand is yet to confirm its existence, but ahead of it, a tipster has shed some light on the phone's launch timeline, design, and price range. Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset is expected to power the OnePlus 13. It is said to feature a mostly flat display with slightly curved edges and have a glass rear panel. 

OnePlus 13 Launch Timeline Revealed 

Tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) on Weibo claimed that the OnePlus 13 will be unveiled between October and November this year. The Vivo X200 series, Oppo Find X8 series, Xiaomi 15, iQOO 1, Realme GT 7 Pro, and Redmi K80 series are also said to be launched around the same timeline.

As per the tipster, the OnePlus 13 will be priced similar to the OnePlus 12. The handsets powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC or the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset will reportedly not see a substantial price increase.

In regards to the design, the tipster suggests that the OnePlus 13 will ditch the circular camera module, but could retain the same lens arrangements as the OnePlus 12. It is said to feature a flat display with curved edge and a glass rear panel instead of ceramic.

As per past leaks, the OnePlus 13 could carry an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and be the first OnePlus flagship to come with an IP69 rating for dust and water resistance. It is likely to retain the 100W fast charging support and 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 sensor for the main camera.

The OnePlus 12 was launched in China in December but it was unveiled globally in January with a starting price tag of Rs. 64,999 for the base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Based on this pattern, we can believe that the OnePlus 13 will be available globally sometime in January or February of 2025.

Microsoft Office, Teams Vulnerabilities Enable Hackers to Access Camera and Microphone on macOS: Report

A cybersecurity group has discovered multiple vulnerabilities in apps developed by Microsoft for macOS that allowed hackers to target users. The security flaws affect apps such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, OneNote and other apps from the Redmond firm, and hackers were able to access a user's camera and microphone by misusing Apple's permission framework on its desktop operating system.. While Microsoft has issued fixes for two of its applications on macOS, its other apps are still vulnerable to attackers.

Microsoft App Vulnerabilities Let Hackers Access Camera, Microphone Without Permissions

Cybersecurity group Cisco Talos revealed details of eight vulnerabilities spotted in Microsoft's apps for macOS in a blog post. These flaws allowed hackers to inject specially crafted malicious libraries into six Microsoft apps — Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, OneNote — and bypass Apple's permission model on macOS.

In order to gain access to a user's microphone and camera, malicious software would need to be granted explicit user consent for the relevant permissions, in accordance with Apple's Transparency, Consent and Control (TCC) framework on macOS. However. some malicious programs can use a process called library injection (or dylib injection on macOS) to gain access to permissions that were granted to other apps.

As a result, macOS users who had Microsoft's apps installed on their computer could be vulnerable to hacking, according to Cisco Talos. The flaws allowed hackers to record audio by injecting libraries into the aforementioned apps. Microsoft Excel is the only app in the list that doesn't have access to the microphone, while apps such as Microsoft Teams can also access the device's camera.

Microsoft Patches Two Affected Apps, Other Apps Remain Vulnerable

 The cybersecurity group says that it reported the security vulnerabilities to Microsoft, and the firm has since updated two of the affected apps with fixes for the flaws. Users who are running the latest versions of Microsoft Teams and OneNote should not be impacted, but the company's Outlook and Office apps are currently affected by the security flaw.

According to Cisco Talos, Microsoft should not have disabled library validation, as it exposes users to unnecessary risks by bypassing hardened runtime safeguards put in place by Apple on the OS, designed to protect users via TCC and its permission model.

Apple could increase security on macOS by prompting users when a third-party plugin is being loaded into apps, as these apps might have already been granted permissions. This could warn users that these external plugins can access the same permissions granted to the original app.

Honor recently introduced the Magic 6 Pro 5G in India. The handset was unveiled in China in January this year alongside the base Honor Magic 6. Meanwhile, rumours surrounding the Honor Magic 7 lineup have started surfacing online. It will likely include a base and Pro variant, similar to the existing series. A tipster has now shared a render of the purported Honor Magic 7 Pro handset, based on leaks over the past few weeks. The render suggests the possible arrangement and the expected details of the rear camera module.

In the caption, the tipster states that the top left corner of the Honor Magic 7 Pro camera module holds the Lidar sensor, the LED flash unit as well as the colour temperature sensor. On the top right, there could be a 180-megapixel or 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP3 sensor. 

A 50-megapixel OV50K primary sensor is said to be placed on the bottom left corner of the Honor Magic 7 Pro camera module, while the bottom right corner is supposedly a 50-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens.

Honor 200 Review: Perfect Balance of Style and Camera

Honor has been spreading its wings in India with a slew of launches. The company recently introduced the Honor 200 series in the country to expand its portfolio in the mid-range and premium segments. Although the Honor 200 Pro caters for the premium segment, it is the Honor 200 that will face the real heat in the Indian smartphone landscape. The latest smartphone from the company is priced at Rs 34,999 for 8GB + 256GB and Rs 39,999 for the 12GB + 512GB option.

The Honor 200 offers some interesting features and a premium design. This time, the special focus is on the cameras, which are co-engineered with Studio Harcourt, a photography studio known for its portraits. That said, is it enough to entice users to bypass the competition and go for this one? Let's find out in this review.

Honor 200 Design: Sleek and Stylish

Honor was one of the few brands that took the designing of the phones quite seriously, even when they were previously active in India before the ban fiasco. Fast forward to today, and you will see the fragments of the same design philosophy in Honor 200. The smartphone looks unique and stylish in this price segment. I got the Moonlight White colour option for the review, and right off the bat, it looks elegant, which is a rarity in this price segment.

The wave design pattern at the rear panel looks quite attractive, and the oval-shaped camera module adds some cherry to the top. However, the camera module also makes it wobble on flat surfaces. The in-hand feel is quite comfortable, though the frame is made of plastic, which is a bummer.

The handset is slim with 7.7mm thickness and weighs 187 grams, which is at par with the competition. The only downside of the design is it is quite slippery, so you will need a case with it, especially as it does not come with any official Gorilla Glass protection. Also, you don't get any official IP rating, which is kind of a deal breaker for me at this price point.

The latest handset from Honor comes loaded with a quad-curved display and offers crisp and colourful visuals. Moreover, you get 4,000nits of peak brightness, making it a bright display for use in outdoor conditions.

The phone offers a 120Hz screen refresh rate, making the whole scrolling experience fluid. The quad-curved screen looks like a premium design while minimising accidental touches. Coming to content consumption, you will surely love this device. While watching ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters' on Apple TV+, the colour saturation was on point and faced no problem for the darker part of the show.

The phone also supports Widevine L1 support along with HDR10+, meaning that you can comfortably watch HDR content on Netflix on this device. You can get two different modes, Normal and Vivid, to meet your desired taste. However, I would suggest to keep it at Vivid mode to get the best output.

The handset offers different options to customise the display settings.

Another interesting thing here is the Always-On display. The phone comes with two options for this mode: Full screen and Partial screen. The full-screen mode dims the version of the lock screen, and you get a full-screen AoD, which is a fun feature.

The handset also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor that works well, though the position is a bit lower than my liking. However, you can choose between animations, which are always fun to use.

Honor 200 Software: Bloatware-Heavy

The Honor 200 comes loaded with MagicOS 8.0, based on the Android 14 operating system. The user interface is easy to get used to and offers some good levels of customisations and features. The company claims to have added some AI features like Magic Capsule, Magic Portal, Magic Ring, and more. Some of these features are useful, while some look more like a gimmick.

The Magic Portal is one useful feature. The feature basically allows you to drag and drop text, photos, and videos from one app to the other. For example, you can copy the text you like on Instagram by simply long-pressing the text until you see a blue hue in the corner. Now, simply drag the content to Notes or other apps like Gmail, WhatsApp, Notes, and more. You also have a Favourite Space that allows you to store all the screenshots and videos and access them anytime.

On the other hand, the Magic Capsule seems to be more of a gimmick here. The company has drawn its inspiration from Apple's Dynamic Island but forgot to be inspired by all the features it offers. At the time, you can also see the music playback and timer. Hopefully, the brand will add more features in the future.

Apart from this, the user interface offers a good level of customisation. On the downside, the issue of bloatware persists. So, you have double apps for Email, Gallery, app market, calculator, docs, and so on. Thankfully, you don't get spammy notifications from these apps, which is a blessing in disguise.

Honor 200 Performance: Decent for Day-to-Day Usage

The Honor 200 packs decent hardware at this price point. The handset comes loaded with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor in Vivo V30, OnePlus Nord CE4, Motorola Edge 50 Pro, and more. However, considering the competition at this price point, the phone's performance is slightly sub-par, and you can check it out in this synthetic benchmark comparisons:

In day-to-day use, you will not face any problems or lag. Even with demanding tasks, the phone doesn't throttle much, which is a good thing.

As far as gaming is concerned, you can do most of the usual gaming on this device without much stress. While playing Call of Duty: Mobile with default settings at High and Very High graphics and frame rates, respectively. Even with Very High Quality and maximum frame rate, I didn't notice any frame drop. However, the phone got slightly warm around the camera module. But it was not at an alarming level.

The cameras are perhaps its biggest strong suit. The Honor 200 features an interesting camera setup that packs everything you need in a good camera-centric smartphone.

During daylight conditions, the phone captures excellent shots with good dynamic range and vibrant colours. The photos were crisp and full of details, though the colours were slightly oversaturated in some cases. However, the ultra-wide angle lens was a miss, as the quality was often not at par. You can see some loss of detail in the corners in daylight shots.

However, the star of the show is the portrait sensor. The phone has a Sony IMX856 2.5x portrait sensor that captures really good photos in different conditions. The skin tone was natural, and the bokeh effect worked well. You also get three different Harcourt portrait modes: Harcourt Vibrant, Harcourt Colour, and Harcourt Classic. My favourite was the Classic mode, which delivered some really good output in different lighting conditions.

Coming to the low light performance of Honor 200, the primary sensor does a good job again. The noises are kept to a minimum, and the phone is able to preserve the colours when the light is low. The ultra-wide angle was again not up to the mark as the photos came out to be less detailed and full of noises.

The Honor 200 is one of the few smartphones in the market that offers a silicon-carbon battery. The silicon-carbon batteries tend to hold higher energy density and take less space as compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries. This results in a slimmer form factor while still maintaining high battery backup, which is the case with this device.

Under normal usage, the phone easily lasted one full day with an average screen time of 6 hours. The phone lasted 28 hours and 27 minutes in our battery loop test, which was quite impressive. It also supports 100W fast charging support. However, you need to buy the charger separately. We tested the charging speed with a 68W fast charger. The phone was charged 37 percent in 15 minutes, 70 percent in 30 minutes, and fully charged in 49 minutes.

Honor 200 Verdict

The Honor 200 is a good package if you are inclined towards a premium camera phone at a mid-range price segment. The phone features a sleek and lightweight design that looks unique. The display is crisp and is deal for content consumption. However, the camera takes centre stage here and delivers some good results with its primary sensor and portrait camera, though the same cannot be said for the wide-angle sensor. The performance is decent, and you will not face any problems during day-to-day usage.

However, the phone faces stiff competition with the likes of Realme GT 6T, Motorola Edge 50 Pro, OnePlus Nord 4, Oppo Reno 12 Pro, and more. So, if you are considering buying a camera-centric smartphone that delivers consistent performance, then you can consider the Honor 200 device.
